Remember What God Has Done 5.6.18

Sunday's Message

REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE

When Texas fought for independence Jim Bowie of Louisiana was sent to demolish the Alamo so that the Mexican army couldn’t use it.  However, he decided to help rally the 100 “Texians” inside the mission to fight against Santa Anna, the Mexican dictator.  The Mexican army numbered over 1,500 as they besieged the Alamo for thirteen days.  The Texians were finally defeated and systematically slaughtered.  The brutality inspired others in Texas with the cry, “Remember the Alamo!”  Thus Texas won its independence and later joined the U.S.

Remembering can be a powerful activity.  As Christians we can remember the cross, the empty tomb and the miraculous coming of the Spirit on Pentecost.  Whenever you worry, get depressed, feel afraid or have anxiety, remember what God has done for you.  The Holy Spirit will fill you with his love, joy and peace.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Remember What God Has Done” from Deuteronomy 8:1-11 where Moses, right before his death, encourages Israel to remember God’s commandments, his provisions and who he is.  The God who is the “same yesterday, today and forever” will continue to bless his people.  Please join us as we celebrate the fact that the one who began a good work in us “will continue it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).

Speaking of celebration: We had a wonderful Spring Celebration last Sunday!  My thanks to everyone who set it up, brought food, played games, cleaned up and simply attended.  This Sunday after church is our Cinco de Mayo Luncheon wherein donations will go to the Mexico Mission Trip.  Thank you for being an awesome church!

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek
