Seek the Living Lord 4.1.18

Sunday's Message
April 1, 2018

SEEK THE LIVING LORD

listen now

There is a book that changed my life, I was drowning in depression, but when I read this book I was lifted higher than the angels! The book is The Saving Life of Christ by Major W. Ian Thomas.  It states that what makes Christianity more than a religion or an ethic is the saving life of Christ.  We usually speak of the death of Christ as providing our way to heaven.  this is true.  But we must also emphasize that his resurrected life can live through us.  Thus in Romans 5:10 Paul wrote,

For is while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Resurrection Sunday I'm preaching on "Seek the Living Lord" from Luke 24:1-10.  Women went to anoint Jesus' body after his burial in a cave.  Early Sunday morning was the first chance they had to do the task in morning light after the mandatory Sabbath rest.  But instead of a dead body, they saw two angels who rebuked them with the question.

Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here. He's risen!

Many people seek a dead Christ -- a Christ who can get them to heaven by his sacrificial death but who can't live through them now to lift them above their self-centeredness, depression, anxiety, anger, prejudice and meaninglessness existence.  We must seek a living Christ and let him fill us and lift us up!  Join us Easter Sunday as we seek the living Lord.  In the poem, Ash Wednesday T. S. Eliot wrote.

No place for grace for those avoid the face,
No time to rejoice for those who walk among noise and deny the voice.

So take some time to seek a living Lord in our worship service this Sunday.
By the way, didn't you love the children's musical last Sunday?  It brought me to tears!

On Good Friday is our Stations of the Cross from 5:00 till 8:00 in the worship center. On Easter don't forget Sunday School at 9:00 as well as worship at 10:30.  Bring family and friends and seek God's face with us!

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek
