Prayer for Spiritual Growth in Obedience to Christ
May the Lord lead your hearts to a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NLT)

For it is God who is working in you enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose. Philippians 2:13 (HCSB)

May God give you a complete understanding of what He wants you to do; making you wise about spiritual things; asking that the way you live will always please the Lord and honor Him , so that you will always be doing good, kind things for others, while all the time you are learning to know God better and better. Colossians 1:9-10 (TLB)

Lord, I lift up my prayer for my church,
May you give them an ever deeper understanding of who you are. That you would reveal to their inner heart and soul how much you love them and want to walk with them daily. Give them the power and strength to obey you and do what pleases you. Give them a glimpse of the great plan you have for them and the wisdom and desire to honor you in their lives, doing good and kind things for others as they get to know you better and better.

Aug 14  Church Council Meeting 12:00 pm . Suite E

SERVICE is an important part of our Ministry at El Camino Baptist Church.

What Happens When We Serve: Giving yourself to ministry and service will not only impact the lives of the ones you are serving, but it will also have a drastic impact on YOU as well. As we give ourselves to the Lord in service we become partners with God in His plans and purposes. As partners, we become more tuned to God’s passion and the building of His Kingdom. What could be more exciting than this? Join Him at Serving at El Camino. Praise the Lord!

A synopsis of Crazy Like Us by Andy Stanley
How do we become generous? Most people think they are generous because they do random acts of giving because they were inspired or felt a sense of guilt. Truly generous people have moved beyond this. Generous people GIVE MORE . SAVE MORE . SPEND LESS. Those who order their life around being generous will be much happier.

Being generous does not come naturally. CRAzY comes naturally because most people spend more than they earn.

Some MYTHS about generosity.

1) it is spontaneous
2) it depends on cash flow

3) it is how much is given that counts
4) rich people are generous

The true definition of GENEROSITY:
The premeditated, calculated, designated emancipation of personal financial assets.

ACTS 20:35 ... remember the words of the Lord Jesus, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Generosity is a way of living and it will dramatically affect the happiness and satisfaction of one's life.

Because generosity does not come naturally, it is something we must learn. We have not learned to be generous if we feel the financial pressure to give. This financial pressure  goes in cycles of worry.

we worry . because we spend more than we make . which causes debt . that creates no financial margin . which causes us to worry

We worry about future consumption because we consume more than we earn, which creates consumer debt, which leaves no margin for future consumption. Jesus calls greed a spiritual problem not a worry problem. It is not a problem of discipline or self-control. It is a spiritual problem based on the trust in riches.

More money does not generate more self-control. More money does not eradicate worry. Greed is wanting what we can't get. One way to satisfy greed is to stop needing what we don't have. Jesus teaches from the Parable of the Farmer found in Luke 12:16. Jesus calls the farmer a fool because he believes that everything that comes to him belongs to him and is for him. Not all that is given to us at our disposal or consumption. It is the consumption assumption that trips us up. Ask yourself when your life is over who will get your stuff?  All that you have stored up? Be rich toward God. He has made us managers not consumers.

We have failed to realize that through worry we have placed our trust in riches other than God who is the ultimate provider of all our needs. We must begin to re-prioritize our thinking from consumption to generosity.

1) PREMEDITATED: We must have a plan and use self-control and discipline. We must change our way of thinking from what is spontaneous, sporadic and sparing.

2) CALCULATED: We must decide ahead of time what to give; what is the right percentage, the right priority, and be progressive.

3) DESIGNATED: We have already decided where the money is going and this is directed from a grateful and broken heart. As it is stated in Matthew 6:21 Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NASB)

THE PLAN 1 Corinthians 16:1-3
Set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income and at the extent at which you have prospered and give out of a grateful and broken heart. vs 3 and decide where to send it.

Remember. . .  GIVE - SAVE - LIVE
