What's happening August 5 - 11

Sunday's Message
August 5, 2018

Imagine that you’re a kid again.  Your parents have given you a pony plus a pasture in which to keep it and ride it.  You don’t thank them. You don’t take care of the pony, and you never play with him, ride him or talk to him.  You ignore him.  How would that make your parents feel?

God has given us a beautiful world in which to live.  He has also given us the Bible.  He reveals himself through these two things.  Yet we often forget to thank him.  We neglect the world and the word.  And we fail to have fun with these precious gifts.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Enjoy God’s Revelation” from Psalm 19 in which David sings of God revealing himself through nature and Scripture.  David’s enjoyment of these means of revelation jump out at the reader.  Won’t you join him in learning to enjoy the world and the word?  Take time to revel in nature and Scripture and hear him speak to you of how beautiful and powerful he is.

This Thursday night, August 2, we’re having adult bowling at Town and Country at 6:00.  It’s $20 per person for all you can eat pizza and soft drinks and two hours of bowling.  Saturday we’re having a Men’s Breakfast at 7:00.  And Sunday we’re having great Sunday School classes at 9:00 and worship at 10:30.  Please come and enjoy God’s people and enjoy learning God’s word.  Meanwhile remember to “rejoice in the Lord always!” (Philippians 4:4).

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek

God's Unconditional & Never-Ceasing Love

Message from the Youth Leader:
The Book of Hosea is collection of poems authored by the prophet Hosea during the era of the Kings in Israel. If you remember from the Books of Kings and Chronicles, Israel was plagued with poorly chosen kings for most of its existence, and the time of Hosea was not an exception. The Book of Hosea opens much like the Book of Ezekiel with God commanding his prophet to take actions that show physically the words God is going to ask Hosea to preach. Hosea is told to take a promiscuous woman as his wife and to have children with her. She will leave him and sleep with other men, and he is to seek her out, pay her debts and bring her home in love. This example echoes the nation of Israel as it wavers between seeking after God and seeking after gods.
To me Hosea’s story parallels the parables of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) and of the Lost Sheep (Matthew 18:12-24). Both New Testament parables express God’s love for the return of those who’ve been lost. Our God choses us even as we are the promiscuous wife, the prodigal son, or the wandering sheep. He loves us whether we seek after Him or not. How much more is he pleased when we do seek him out. He searches for us, pays our debts, and brings us home in love. What a wonderful allegory for God’s unconditional, never-ceasing love.
If we have already returned, or never left, as Hosea, the Prodigal’s brother, or the Ninety-Nine, we are called to have God’s heart. We are to be Hosea seeking the woman who hurt him, the father who welcomes his lost son back with celebration, and the shepherd whose love for the lost sends him into the wilderness to seek them out. How good are we at having God’s heart?
When we are baptized, God removes our hearts of stone and replaces them with hearts of clay. This is because we are not a finished product. We should be constantly seeking to be molded and worked with. We are not perfect, yet we are called to model Jesus. This is the challenge of Christ-likeness we share as believers. Thanks be to God we were brought together for this work. Amen.

JUNE 15-22 2018

Our Missions team partnered with Pastor Carlos of La Roca Ministries of Tijuana, Mexico. The team spent several days helping the La Roca Missionaries work in the field to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of men, women, and children in the local area.

La Roca Ministries reaches out to touch people’s lives that are devastated by poverty, neglect, and despair. These people find themselves enslaved to drugs and alcohol and living in the streets of Tijuana, Mexico. Our desire is to mirror Christ’s compassion and concern to these people.

It has been said, “give a person a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a life.” We believed in “teaching people how to fish”. We want to see lives transformed and we believe that comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our program seeks to help rebuild lives by making disciples; raising up men, women, and teens as future leaders and missionaries, and sending them forth to advance the Kingdom of God on earth. Thank you for your prayers and financial support. You are making a difference today and for eternity! ≈ Pastor Carlos

JULY 4, 2018
WHO WON "BEST SHOW" in the Arden Arcade 4th of July Parade? EL CAMINO BAPTIST CHURCH.

We Had a Fantastic Time!
Many came to help us create a wonderful float that won "Best Show." We handed out water to the crowds and passed out flyers promoting our Vacation Bible School. We had so much fun serving God and sharing His love in this unique way.

JULY 9-13, 2018

Our Vacation Bible School Was A Huge Success! We had approximately 66 children registered for this event. Many of our workers spent months preparing for Game On. Much of the work was accomplished behind the scenes that would transform our facility to represent the theme. We had Bible classes for pre-k, children, youth, and adults. Everyone enjoyed the MUSIC, CRAFTS, SNACKS, AND RECREATION.
