Remember Mom 5.13.18

Sunday's Message
May 13, 2018

I remember my mother reading to me from a Bible storybook on a sunny afternoon in Arizona.  It wasn’t a fancy, oversized book with colorful pictures.  It was quite literary with small black-and-white pictures.   While she read I remember looking at a picture of Samson.  The memory of Mother’s attention, my fascination with Scripture and the love of God combine to bring me comfort fifty years later.  This Sunday we’ll be remembering Mom.  You may not have had a good mother or you may have experienced great tragedy as a mother.  Some people actually avoid church on Mother’s Day for that reason.  Please come Sunday!  Honor my mother, if you’d like.  Certainly you should come for God.  Since we are his slaves (1 Corinthians 7:23), we should always attend church to honor him as master.

This Sunday I’ll be preaching on “Remember Mom” from 1 Timothy 2:1-9 where Paul speaks glowingly of Timothy’s faith which he got from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice.  We should, like Paul and Timothy, be personal and remember the faith of those who went before us.  I’m grateful for a faithful mom who’s now gracing the halls of heaven.  And I’m grateful for my children’s mom who keeps gracing them with her love.

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek
