Be Crucified With Christ

In Matthew 10:38 Jesus explained that being his disciple means putting him above everything else, even one’s own family.  He described this total commitment as taking up one’s cross.  Of course, when we do this, Jesus will care for our family through us.

In Matthew 16 Jesus said that he would suffer many things, be killed and be raised on the third day.  Peter said that it would never happen.  Jesus rebuked Peter as an adversary like Satan.  Then Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after me he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me,” (v. 24).

Paul said, in response to Peter’s legalistic shunning of the Gentiles, “I am crucified with Christ,” (Galatians 2:20).

What does all this mean?

It means you give everything to Jesus.  This happens when you’re born again (John 3).  This is why you’re supposed to be immersed (that’s what the Greek word baptizo means).  It shows that you’re drowning the old person and you want Jesus to rise up and live in your place (Romans 6:4).

In Luke 9:23 Jesus says that we should take up our crosses daily.  That is, every day we should consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:11).

This death to self is a joyous privilege!  It gets rid of our sins, anger, impatience, resentments, guilt, bitterness and inadequacy.  It lets Jesus live through us with his great love, joy and peace (Galatians 5:22-25).

How can we be crucified with Christ?  We have to: 1) want to be dead to self and to let Jesus live through us, 2) ask for it daily, 3) believe that it’s happening, 4) let Jesus change us by taking away our sinful habits, 5) relax in his grace.

This Sunday I’ll be preaching on being crucified with Christ.  I don’t know when I’ve ever been so excited about a sermon that I’m going to preach.  I’ll be dealing with Simon’s carrying Jesus’ cross, with the repentant thief and with our savior’s crucifixion of our sins from Luke 23:26-43.  Please come and bring as many people as you can.  During the Children’s Worship the kids will hunt Easter eggs.  This will be tied into a lesson on what Jesus has done, is doing and will do for us.

Fall Festival 2017
Carnival & Clothes Closet
Coming October 21, 2017

See the fun they had last year. ►To Watch Click the Photo

Our Annual Fall Festival 2016 was a great success. Over all we had around 105 visitors and 50 volunteers helping with this event. We can say with confidence that everyone had a lot of fun playing games, winning prizes and enjoying the food.

This event wasn't only about having fun, we wanted to be a blessing to our community as well by giving away an assortment of clothing. We gave away so many clothes and even had lots of left overs which made it possible to donate them to the Union Gospel Mission's Clothes closet. Our prayer team also had the opportunity to talk and pray with some of our visitors.

We thank God for His provision and thank everyone for all the hard work which helped make this event possible! We are looking forward to next year when we can do this again

We need your help to make a great impact in our community through this year's event.

We are looking for helpers for Promotion, Games & Prizes, Clothes Closet, Prayer and Food. Contact Greg Horton for more information (415) 684-4549.
