From Your Office Manager

The year is almost at its end and we await a fresh new start for the New Year. In preparation for Christmas and the New Year, I am taking time off again from my duties at the office to spend some quality time with my family. I will be out of the office starting Wednesday, Dec 21st and return on Tuesday, Jan 3rd. It is a privilege to work at El Camino Baptist Church for the last 11 years. I thank God frequently for giving me the opportunity to give of myself in spiritual worship as I use the gifts and talents He has given me for His service at this church.

It's my prayer for God's blessings to be upon this church and His people - that you may know how loved you are of God. You are His church and His people and He has sacrificed everything for you that you may become holy and blameless. I pray that Christ will continue to work in you to give you the power to be obedient to Him, to do what pleases Him,  as we get to know Him better and better. I also pray that God will make you all you can be by changing the way you think, so that you will always know what His perfect will is. I pray for your unity of spirit and purpose as you work toward becoming more like Christ. Above all I pray Christ's LOVE will bind you all together in perfect harmony. Let the words of Christ dwell in your hearts and become evident in your lives as you teach and counsel each other and make opportunity to share your faith as a representatives of our Lord. May you always work hard and cheerfully in everything that you do to fulfill His purpose for you, always giving thanks to God --Amen.

Give from a Grateful Heart

Why Do We Give?

Because We are His Beloved Children
God has bestowed His great love upon us and has given us the privilege to be called is children.
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are" (1 John 3:1). As His children we seek to please Him by becoming more and more like Jesus. As we learn more about Him and follow His example He works in us to make us all we should be. And what are we to be? "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God" (Ephesians 5:1-2). As His beloved children we are to resemble Him.

Because Our Hearts Are Moved
God looks at generosity as more than an action. It is an attitude of the heart.
"Each on must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7). Jesus praised the generosity of the poor widow who gave all she had because she gave sacrificially from a grateful heart. God wants us to give prayerfully, lovingly, purposefully and willfully out of love and appreciation of God's grace and provision, realizing that everything we have belongs to Him and has been given to us to manage for His good purpose.

Because It Brings Glory To God
Our gifts of generosity which come from gratitude to God is a sweet smelling sacrifice to Him and brings glory and honor to His name.
"Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God" (2 Corinthians 9:11). God's love for us will never change. Our relationship with Him is not dependent on what we do or what we can offer Him. His love stands on nothing else but His unfailing affection and devotion to us. He delights in our unselfish behavior and it pleases Him when we give our best and give with the right motives. It pleases Him because He created us to be generous and when we are generous we resemble Him as His beloved children.

Sunday's Message, December 18, 2016, God is With Us musical presentation by our Christmas Choir
Join us for a glorious celebration of Christ's birth

True Peace

Sunday we’ll light the Peace Candle, see the musical, God Is With us, and I’ll speak briefly on, “Have True Peace” from Jeremiah 6:14 which reads:

They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially Saying, “Peace, peace,” But there is no peace.

We live in a day where people seek to heal our brokenness superficially.  When you watch TV you get the feeling that if you just buy a certain product, eat a certain food or go on a certain diet that you’ll get true peace.  Meanwhile, Jesus tells us:

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you: not as the world gives do I give to you.  Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Thus the angels sang in honor of Jesus’ birth:

Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace among men

                                    With whom he is pleased.

Come Sunday and find out how to have that true peace.  It consists of forgetting about self, repenting and being filled with the Holy Spirit.  We have so many sins that we cling to and we wonder why we have no more peace than the non-Christian.  It’s because we’re trying to live and think like non-Christians!  When we immerse ourselves in the presence of Christ we’re supernaturally filled with the “peace that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).

Enjoy a peaceful Christmas.  As you busily make preparations, as family and friends gather, as you sit in traffic and as you bump up against strangers in the stores, make sure that your every word, action and facial expression reflects Christ’s peace.  Simply pray, “Dear Jesus, fill me with your peace,” and by faith enjoy the prospects of true peace.

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek
