Sunday's Message, February 26, 2017

Revel In Christ's Love

This month I’ve been preaching on love.  I remember as a child singing the hymn, “Love Is the Theme.”  Indeed it is.  I feel that God’s most distinctive feature is his love.  It is by love that all men will know that we are Christ’s disciples (John 13:35).  The word used here for love in the Greek of the New Testament is agape.  It means giving without any guarantee of return.  The other Greek words for love, philia (brotherly love), eros (erotic love) and storge (affection) are humanly possible, but only by letting Christ love through us can we have the love that keeps giving, and giving and giving.

This Sunday I’m preaching on, “Revel in Christ’s Love,” from John 15:9-17.
We will learn how to let Christ’s love shine through us eternally, the kind of love that is given even to the unlovely; the love that is kind and gentle even in the face of adversity.

Is there someone you have a hard time loving?  Be honest.  Ask God to love that person through you today . . . and forever!  Give everything to God and thank him that he will begin to love through you without expectation of return.  Then you will begin to love like Christ.  It’s going to be awesome!  It will transform your marriage, kids, parents, workplace, school, church and community!

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek

Why Do We Give?

Because God Gave
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  John 10:10 I came (Jesus) that they may have life and have it abundantly.

The scripture speaks volumes on the virtue of generosity and there are many extraordinary examples of those giving generously, even the poor, furthermore, the poorest of the poor giving all that they have. It is evident that God holds a high regard to this virtue and for a good reason. It is the very nature and character of God to be generous. How awesome it is to know that when God created us He imprinted on our soul His generous nature. And when we make a deliberate choice to be generous we are imitating our God who gave His life for us.

Because We Are His Beloved Children
God has bestowed His great love upon us and has given us the privilege to be called His children.
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are" (1 John 3:1).  As His children we seek to please Him by becoming more and more like Jesus. As we learn more about Him and follow His example, He works in us to make us all we should be. And what are we to be? "Therefore be imitators of God, as His beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God" (Ephesians 5:1-2). As His beloved children we are to resemble Him.

Why Do We Give?
