What's happening [January 28 - February 3]

Sunday's Message
January 28, 2018

Part of the joy of taking a vacation is anticipating it. Part of the joy of Christmas is anticipating it.  Part of the joy of summer is anticipating it.  Part of the joy of the new heaven and new earth is anticipating it.  Of course, when the event we’re anticipating arrives we’re often disappointed that it didn’t meet our expectations.  That will not happen with the new heaven and new earth!  In C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia the unicorn sees the new Narnia and says, “This is everything we loved about the old Narnia only better!”  That is what we’ll say when we get to the new heaven and new earth.

So why not enjoy the new heaven and new earth before we even get there?

If you know things are going to work out beautifully in the end, why worry about the journey?

Sunday I’m preaching on “Get a New Attitude for a New Heaven and Earth” from Revelation 21:1-9.  John was in exile on the island of Patmos just off the coast of Turkey when Jesus revealed himself to the Beloved Disciple.  John was told to send the revelation to the seven suffering churches in Asia Minor.  The letter was written in the apocalyptic genre which includes symbols that make the message hard to understand for the readers’ enemies but easy to decipher for the recipients.  Our job today is to understand those symbols and to read the revelation appropriately, then apply them to our lives.  Join us this Sunday as we delve into God’s word and get the right attitude.  The right attitude will change your relationship with God, your family, your church, your job and your community.  Let’s get a new attitude!

With love in Christ,
Dr. Jim Meek

Pulse Youth Updates:

Message from the Youth Leader:

As I enter the New Year, I seek the plans God has for Pulse Youth.  God has been pressing on my heart that we should engage in more works of service to our family, church, and community that we may be drawn closer together as we draw closer to him (taken from Matthew 25:31-46).  To that end, this last Wednesday we made over 200 chocolate-chip cookies and delivered them on Thursday to our local police station and 3 different fire stations.  Cooking together was an immense blessing of fellowship for us, and our local first responders were pleased and surprised to be appreciated in this way.  We will certainly do this again.  I am currently in prayer for what plans God has for our ministry as he has called me to invest my career into it.  I know that “…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6) and that God is not done with Pulse Youth.  Thank you for your prayers and support for our students!

Upcoming Lessons:

  • Sunday 1/28: Luke 7:36-50: How far would you go to show your love for Jesus?
  • Wednesday 1/31: 1 & 2 Kings:Who is your king?

Event Updates:

  • 1/31/2018: Youth Cooks 5th Wednesday!
  • 2/14/2018: Café Valentino Serves Again!
  • 2/17/2018: We go to Six Flags??? Possibly (if we decide to)

Prayer Requests:

  • I am looking to build my leadership team to give my current volunteers some time to attend to their own growth.  Please pray that people would have courage to join our team and that my team would have wisdom as we minister.
  • Praise God that we have been blessed with a particularly good set of students. That being said, my students have been praying for wisdom as they try to help their friends. It is always hard to be the role model, and sometimes harder to be the councilor to your friends, so please pray for my students as they try to do both.

    Youth Director
