Rejoice With Nature

Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic.  In 1879 Bedrich Smetana portrayed it in his symphonic poem, Ma Vlast (My Country).  A flute and a clarinet depict two streams.  When the streams converge it is depicted by violins.  Then we can hear the river flowing by huntsmen and dancers, over rapids, through Bohemian forests and into the mighty city of Prague.  With this piece Smetana rejoiced with nature.

Sunday I’m speaking on “Rejoice with Nature” from 1 Chronicles 16:23-34 wherein David accompanies the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem.  He worshiped with joy and he thanked God with nature.

Paul stated that nature is linked to our response to God (Romans 8:18-23).  When man fell, nature fell from its state of perfection.  When Jesus comes again and Christians receive new bodies, then nature will be transformed as well.  It’s as though nature is in the process of painfully giving birth.  But when the new heaven and earth comes then the pain will be forgotten.

David likewise felt that nature is linked to our response to God.  It sings with us when our hearts soar in praise of God.

So, I invite you to sing to God with us this Sunday.  And during the sermon learn to rejoice with nature.

Men, don’t forget this Sunday to come to the Men’s Breakfast at 7:00.  It’s a wonderful time for renewal as we get ready for spring!

What Kind of Faith is Jesus Asking For?

“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.  He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.  And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Luke 18:1-9 NIV

Will He find faith upon the earth… what kind of faith is Jesus asking for?  His “widow” cries for justice after having been wronged and His “judge” grants the request, not out of duty or righteousness, but out of a sense of mental and physical self-preservation.  If God is good, righteous and just won’t he also give us justice?  If we are to be the widow, then what must we do?  I believe that Jesus is calling upon us seek justice and cry out in faith against the Enemy.  We will soon have relief from him who seeks our downfall, but in the meantime, we must never succumb to laziness or apathy with our prayers.  Faith is giving your heart, thoughts, time, and strength with trust that your efforts will not come up void.  There is no such thing as a wrong way to pray, but it is conversation with your creator.

Upcoming Lessons:

Prayer Requests:

  • Stronger Bonds: I believe that we have been heavily focused upon discipleship on Sundays and Wednesdays at the cost of the real bonds of fellowship with believers.  Please pray that God can help us bring these invaluable purposes back into balance.
  • Wisdom: There is a great wave of interest in finding safe places for teenagers to hang out… God may be nudging us to ride this wave, but we will need God’s wisdom not to wipe out or chicken out.
