Sunday's Message March 5, 2017

Let God Arrange the Marriage

Each month I preach on a certain theme.  February’s theme was, “Love.”  Hopefully, we’re learning to love through God’s power.

March’s theme is, “Build a Great Family.”

Did you know that the month of March was named after the Roman god of war, Mars?  It’s because in March men would march off to war.  In fact, the word “march” comes from “Mars” as well.

Sometimes our homes can seem like a war zone.  Let’s change that through the power and love of God!  Our home should be a citadel of peace.  It’s one of the places that our spouses, children, parents and siblings should be able to find unconditional love.

Sunday I’ll be preaching on, “Let God Arrange the Marriage” from Genesis 24:51-67.  It’s about Rebekah and Isaac, one of the great love stories of literature.  It will be an important and fun message for everyone, so please come and bring everyone you can.

Men, make sure you come to our Men’s Breakfast this Saturday at 7:00 in the Fellowship Hall.
Also, let me know if you want to be on our basketball team March 18 in Vacaville.

We had a great time bowling together last month!

Dr. Jim Meek

Give from a Grateful Heart

We have been discussing Why Do We Give?

Last time we learned

Continued. . .

Because Our Hearts Are Moved
God looks at generosity as more than an action. It is an attitude of the heart.
"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7). Jesus praised the generosity of the poor widow who gave all she had because she gave sacrificially from a grateful heart. God wants us to give prayerfully, lovingly, purposefully and willfully out of love and appreciation of God's grace and provision; realizing that everything we have belongs to Him and has been given to us to manage for His good purpose.

Because it Brings Glory to God
Our gifts of generosity which come from gratitude to God is a sweet smelling sacrifice to Him and brings glory and honor to His name.
"Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God" (2 Corinthians 9:11). God's love for us will never change. Our relationship with Him is not dependent on what we do or what we can offer Him. His love stands on nothing else but His unfailing affection and devotion to us. He delights in our unselfish behavior and it pleases Him when we give our best and give with the right motives. It pleases Him because He created us to be generous and when we are generous we resemble Him as His beloved children.

Because God Provides for His Children
Philippians 4:19
This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs according to the riches in Christ Jesus.

God is a loving and gracious Heavenly Father. The Bible is full of examples of God’s provision for His people. When Moses led the Hebrews from captivity in Egypt through the wilderness, God provided for there every need. Each wakening day they had enough food, water, clothing and shelter to take them to the next day. Jesus taught us to pray for “our daily bread” as a reminder that God is the one who provides our every need for body, soul and spirit. The Apostle Paul also recognized God’s provision. And even though most of hiswritings were from jail he encouraged the church toward contentment and generosity;resting on the faithfulness and care of God to fulfill His Divine plan and purpose for their lives and the Kingdom of God. Paul learned to be content with what he had and relied on God’s strength and guidance to carry on, in every circumstance. He knew God would take care of his needs and God’s provision came through the trust, obedience and generosity of the church.

God’s provision in our life should spur us on to generosity and sharing what we have with others in need, especially those who give themselves to the Ministry of the Gospel. As we become faithfully consistent in our habit of generosity; God promises to reward the generosity of his children. He will supply all grace required and bless with all sufficiency to those who give cheerfully, so that we may all abound in every good work.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work(2 Corinthians 9:8).

To be continued...

Debbie Fredrickson
