Sunday's Message
November 19, 2017

Christians separated from the Church of England in the 17th Century.  King James drove them out of Britain so they settled in Amsterdam.  But the ways of the Dutch seemed so worldly that some of the congregation sailed to the New World.  We call them Pilgrims.  The rest of the congregation stayed in Holland and became the first Baptists!  Then they sailed back to Britain and from there changed the world forever.

The Pilgrims changed the world as well by building a city on a hill so that everyone could see what it's like to have a society based on the God's Word.  Half of them died the first year in that cold New England winter.  Can you imagine burying half of the congregation in one season?  Yet these hardy men and women of God learned to give thank even in the most tragic of times.  The graves of the dead became the seeds out of which the greatest nation in hisitory was born.

Let's learn to give thanks always!  It will help build a great nation and a better world.  It will help our families rejoice instead of drowning the seas of self-pity.  It will help you soar on eagles' wings.   Please join us this Sunday as I preach on "Thank God Always" from 1 Thessalonians 5:12-19.  As we learn the art of thanking God for everything then we will be pleasing to the Almighty God.  You could do worse things than make god happy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dr. Jim Meek
