When I was a pastor in Livermore, my wife’s dad and his wife visited us from Arizona on an Easter weekend.  They came to our Good Friday service and he was deeply moved.  That next day Nancie and I sat with them in our house and I went through the plan of salvation with them.  Dad and his wife went regularly to the church that met in their mobile home park, but I wanted to make sure they’d prayed to receive the Spirit of Christ.

After Nancie and I led them in a prayer to receive Christ, I told them about the importance of getting baptized (immersed) in water to show that they had been immersed in the Spirit.  So, they agreed to let me baptize them on Easter morning at Trinity in Livermore.  What a day of rejoicing that was!

Sunday I’m preaching on “Let the Spirit Enter Your Family” from 1 Samuel 16:1-13.  It’s about the Spirit entering the young David as he gathered with his family.  We’ll look at “Gather around the Sacrifice,” verses 1-5; and “Receive the Spirit,” verses 6-13. 

There’s a song that says, “All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down.”  Let’s pray that our families will be filled the Holy Spirit.  Come Sunday and help us learn how to get involved in that glorious goal.
