GRATEFULLY WORSHIP

Sunday afternoon Nancie and I watched “The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C.S. Lewis.”  It was beautiful and brilliant.  It shows Lewis telling the story of how he came to Christ.  He starts off telling how he felt as an atheist.  His arguments for atheism seem insurmountable.

The movie shows Lewis’ childhood and his early days at Oxford.  In time he was surrounded by wonderful, logical Christians and irresistible books by Christians.

He finally came to believe in God.  It was as though God had come to him, and Lewis surrendered to God’s presence.

The movie never showed answers to Lewis’ early questions concerning the existence of God.  It was like the book of Job.  The wealthy, influential Job had lost everything except his life.  He hurled questions and accusations at God, but God simply answered by his presence.  Job finally said, “I knew you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you, so I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

When Lewis suddenly believed there was a God, he went to church and to chapel at the university.  He said, “One ought to fly one’s flag.”  He was announcing that he was now a believer.  But he was not yet a Christian.

As he studied the Gospels, he realized that they were not fiction.  They were the essence of truth.  No one could invent a person such as Jesus.

He gave his life to Christ and worshiped the person of Jesus.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Gratefully Worship” from Psalm 98.  We’ll talk about “Worship with a New Spirit,” verses 1-3; “Worship with Joy,” verses 4-6; and “Worship with Nature,” verses 7-9.  Please come and worship with us.

Thanks to all who helped with the Harvest Festival.  It was a great success!  Pray that people will be faithful to our church in light of the beauty of the activity.  God have us a perfect night, overseen by a perfect moon!

Please give faithfully to our church to help us reach out with activities such as the Harvest Festival.  Giving is an act of worship!

Love,

Jim Meek
