FACE THE ENEMY
C. S. Lewis was an atheist. He came to know Christ at the age of 32. He was a brilliant professor at Oxford and Cambridge. He wrote 30 books that have been translated into 30 languages. “The Chronicles of Narnia” is his most popular work, but he’s also known for “The Space Trilogy, “Mere Christianity,” “Miracles” and “The Problem of Pain.”
He wrote “Screwtape Letters” about a senior demon advising a junior demon on how to tempt people. The book became a classic. He was asked if he really believed in the devil and demons and he said, “Yes. It agrees with the plain sense of Scripture, the tradition of Christendom and the beliefs of most men at most times. And it conflicts with nothing that any of the sciences has shown to be true.”
There is an enemy to all that is good, healthy and happy. We should face that enemy through the power of the Word and the Holy Spirit.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Face the Enemy” from Matthew 4:1-11. We’ll talk about “Face Temptation,” verses 1-2; and “Face the Enemy with God’s Word,” verses 3-11. The passage is about Satan tempting Jesus. He tempts us as well. Come and help us learn how to face the temptations. Please realize that Satan doesn’t want you to come.
Don’t forget our Yard Sale this Saturday! The missions committee is putting this on to help us have community events that will bring people to Christ. Please donate stuff and come and buy!
Love,
Jim Meek
