FACE THE ENEMY FULLY ARMED
Thaddeus Kosciuszko was a Polish colonel and engineer who showed up on Benjamin Franklin’s doorstep and said, “I want to offer my services to the new nation.”
Kosciuszko was then sent to Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain in New York. The fort had been captured by the Americans, but the British were going to try to retake it. When Kosciuszko arrived, he stated that Sugar Loaf Hill overlooking the fort had to be equipped with cannon in order to defend the fort. The commanding general said that it was impossible to get cannon on that high mountain. Kosciuszko disagreed, but the general’s word was decisive.
Soon, the British came, and during the night placed cannon atop the Sugar Loaf Hill! The next day they bombed an American ship on Lake Champlain, and bombed places within the fort.
That night the Americans evacuated the fort. Kosciuszko was right, and only by virtue of a floating log bridge that the Pole had constructed, was the American army able to escape.
Fort Ticonderoga had been improperly armed to resist the enemy.
We must be fully armed to withstand the enemy who attacks us. Satan wants to sow discord in our families, church and nation. He wants to attack us with depression, anxiety, fear, bitterness and anger. We must resist him through God’s power and the armor God gives us.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Face the Enemy Fully Armed” from Ephesians 6:10-18. We’ll talk about “Face the Enemy through the Lord,” verse 10; “Face the Enemy with God’s Equipment,” verses 11-17; and “Face the Enemy with Prayer,” verse 18. Please come and get equipped with us.
Also, come to our Special Called Business Meeting to vote on our Bylaws this Sunday at 1:30. Please come fully equipped with prayer!
Love,
Jim Meek
