FACE THE HORRORS OF A GODLESS LIFE
John Malkovich years ago was nominated for 2 Academy Awards. He might get another nomination for “Wild Horse Nine” about a retired CIA operative named Chris who’s dying of cancer and takes a trip from Santiago to Easter Island. He thinks about the horrible things he’s done as an agent and wonders what it all means.
Malkovich was asked how he was similar to Chris. He said, “I’m not addicted to heroin, I don’t smoke anymore – as much as I’d like to - and I’m not prone to killing people.” But at his age, he said that reflecting on what he has done is natural. “Death is very much always present.”
Sunday I’m preaching on “Face the Horrors of a Godless Life” from 1 Samuel 28:11-20. I’ll talk about “Don’t Be God’s Enemy,” verses 11-16; and “Obey God,” verses 17-20. It’s about King Saul visiting the witch of Endor and hearing the ghost of Samuel. Please come and help us learn from this month’s theme, “Face What’s Scary.”
October 18, at 1:30 we’re discussing and voting on our church’s bylaws. Please immerse this event in prayer. Copies are available in the foyer.
