DISCIPLE OTHERS
John Wesley was born June 1703 in Epworth, United Kingdom, a quaint town north of London. In Oxford he was part of the Holy Club that sought to delve deep into Scripture and prayer. He sailed to Georgia to become a pastor. On the journey a great storm broke the mast of his ship. Everyone panicked except a group of Moravians, Christians who calmly trusted God. This made an impact on Wesley.
The Georgia pastorate didn’t succeed. When he came back to London, he heard a man reading Luther’s preface to the book of Romans. He felt that at that moment he became born again.
Wesley started small groups throughout the United Kingdom, focusing on discipleship. He was barred from many pulpits in the Church of England, but before he died he was known as the “best loved man in England.” His Herculean efforts led to the establishment of the Methodist Church which focused on a method of spiritual growth and discipline.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Disciple Others” from Acts 18:22-28. I’ll talk about “Explain the Truth,” verses 22-26; and “Send the Disciple into the World,” verses 27-28. This is the story of Priscilla and Aquila discipling Apollos. Come and help us disciple others.
