TEACH THE CHILDREN
Tuesday Dolly Parton went to heaven. She’s been called the Queen of Country, but she was also the queen of popular music, the silver screen, benevolence and philanthropy.
People talk of the need for unity, then they go on to say divisive things. Not Dolly! She never said anything bad about anybody. She united liberals and conservatives, Christians and non-Christians, country western music fans and popular music fans. It seems that everyone loves her.
She wrote 3000 songs, made 50 albums and sold 100 million records, and she’s been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
She was born in a one room cabin, the fourth of twelve children. Her father couldn’t read, but he taught her to be financially smart. Her mother was always singing folk tunes. Her aunt was an evangelist and brilliant instrumentalist. Thus, this family educated Dolly in such a way that she would affect the world forever, giving it a glorious, heavenly light. Even her father’s inability to read inspired her to form the Imagination Library which has given away 332 million books to children worldwide.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Teach the Children” from Proverbs 3:1-12. I’ll talk about “Teach So Others Will Be Favored,” verses 1-4; and “Teach So Others May Trust God,” verses 5-14.
