COUNT ON GOD TO START OVER

January 26, 2025

As I watched the Inauguration of President Trump on Monday, I was struck by how many times God and Jesus were mentioned.  On Tuesday when Marco Rubio was sworn in as Secretary of State, he thanked Jesus Christ.  President Biden had left a note for Trump stating “May God bless you and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since our founding.”

Every President has invoked God in his Inaugural Address.  Some people may be skeptical of politicians giving thanks to God, but I think it’s much better than people using God’s name as a swear word!  I think it’s great that our nation’s leaders see the need to mention the Lord in public appearances.  May each one depend on him at all times!  We’re praying for them!

Lincoln lost so many elections that he was ready to quit politics.  But the nation’s compromises on slavery drove him into running for the Senate.  When he lost, he swore he would never strive for office again.  Then, by God’s will he successfully ran for President.  As he made his way from Springfield to the nation’s capital, he said, “Without the assistance of that Divine Being who ever attended Washington, I cannot succeed.”  He counted on God, and God gave him the ability to start over again, and he saved our Union during its terrible Civil War.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Count on God to Start Over” from Isaiah 63:7-14.  We’ll talk about “Remember God’s Love,” verses 7-9; “Count on God to Continue His Care,” verses 10-13; and “Count on God to Glorify His Name,” verse 14.  Please come and help us depend on God to get a fresh start in life.

Love,

Jim Meek
