SHOW LOVE THROUGH OBEDIENCE

This is the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis. Millions will pass by his body which is displayed for the first time February 22 through March 22 in Assisi. Born into a family of a wealthy merchant, he publicly removed his rich robes and made a vow of poverty. He ministered to lepers and the poor and even told the Sultan of Egypt about Jesus during the Fifth Crusade. Tradition says that he preached to birds and kept a wolf from terrorizing an Italian village. He supposedly established the first Christmas creche (from the French word for crib), depicting the birth of Christ.
St. Francis has affected generations for Christ. When we have our Live Nativity we may thank St. Francis. When we put the Christmas scene beneath our Christmas tree or on the mantel, we may thank St. Francis. When we treat God’s creation with special care, we may thank St. Francis. This man has blessed generations for 800 years.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Let God Bless Future Generations” from 2 Samuel 7:8-17. We’ll look at “Let God Bless You,” verses 8-11; and “Let God Use You to Bless Others,” verses 12-17. It’s about David wanting to bless God by building him a house, but God instead blessed David by building him a household, that is, a family that would be a blessing for generations.
That’s what we need to do: Let God bless future generations through us! This applies to our family, church, and the world around us. Let’s attend, give, pray, invite and teach for the wellbeing of future generations!
By the way, we have a Vacation Bible School workers’ lunch this Sunday. Come and help us use VBS to affect generations!
