LIVE IN GOD'S FAMILY
When I was in high school there was a cute girl in the back of the room at French class. Her name was Nancie Bossert. She was also in my drama class. She doesn’t remember me from those classes even though I sat in the front row!
Then, I played Colonel Fisby in the play “Teahouse of the August Moon” about the US occupation of Okinawa after World War II. Nancie saw me in rehearsal wearing an army uniform. So, at last she noticed me! In fact, that night she decided that someday she’d marry me.
One night, under a moonlit sky, I asked God if he wanted me to date Nancie. I felt that God said, “Yes!”
I took Nancie to church, and we met with our pastor. He prayed with Nancie to receive Christ. She was baptized on Halloween during a Sunday night service!
One day she told me that she felt closer to her church family than to her biological family. This meant a lot to me. I felt then that her relationship with God would last! Of course, eventually, I married her.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Live in God’s Family” from Romans 8:9-18. We’ll talk about “Be in the Spirit’s Family,” verses 9-11; “Don’t Live according to the Flesh,” verses 12-13; and “Live as Children of God,” verses 14-18.
Family is important! Biological families and church families demand sacrifice and love. The payback is eternal! Please support your church family and come to Sunday School and worship this Sunday.
This Monday is Memorial Day. In the Sunday service, we’ll honor our service men and women of the past, present and future. After all, these people are an important part of our national family!
