LISTEN AND EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE

November 2, 2025

There are two things we’re not good at: listening and expressing our gratitude.  One of the most famous people of the Middle Ages was Joan of Arc.  She was good at those two things.  She listened to messages from God, and she gave her life in gratitude to God.

At the age of 13 Joan heard God calling her to free the French from English dominance.  By the age of 17 she had convinced the dauphin, Charles, to send her to help relieve the city of Orleans from a British siege.  The English eventually retreated, and she led the attack to push them further away.

Later Charles was crowned king of France with Joan by his side.

Eventually the Burgundians, who were allies of the British, captured Joan and sold her to the English.  They executed her, but while she was tied to the stake she said, “Hold the cross high so that I can see it through the flames!”  She had earlier said, “I place my trust in God my Creator.  I love him with all my heart.”

She inspired the French to win the One Hundred Year War against Britain, and she has become an inspiration through the ages, because she heard God and publicly thanked him.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Listen and Express Your Gratitude” from Isaiah 48:12-22.  We’ll talk about “Pay Attention to the Savior,” verses 12-19 and “Proclaim Your Salvation,” verses 20-22.  Please join us.  Your presence expresses your gratitude to God.  Please come, ready to listen.

By the way, my thanks to all who helped with the Trunk and Treat.  God gave us perfect weather, a great turnout and a great spirit.  May it be a foretaste of the weather, cooperation and outreach we’ll experience in our Live Nativity!  Pray for that.

Love,

Jim Meek
