SHINE AS A CHURCH

September 14, 2025

Last Sunday 80,000 people went to the Vatican in Rome where Carlo Acutis and Pier Frassati were officially made saints of the Catholic Church.  Frassati died of polio in the 1920s, but Carlo is known as the first millennial saint.  A millennial is someone born during the 1980s and the 1990s.

Carlo was born in London in 1991 and was raised in Milan by Italian parents.  He became a computer programmer at an early age.  He witnessed to people all over the world using computer program languages.  He was a handsome, charming teen who usually wore sneakers, sweatshirts and jeans.  He loved playing soccer.

He died of leukemia at the age of 15.  Yet he leaves behind a legacy of commitment to the church.  Churches used his skills to develop their websites.  He attended church every day! He helped the church shine.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Shine as a Church” from Ephesians 5:13-21.  We’ll look at “Let Christ Shine on You,” verses 13-16; and “Shine in the Spirit,” verses 17-21.

We’re having our 70th Anniversary as a church on Sunday.  Our Hispanic community will help lead us in one of our worship songs.  After church we’re having anniversary cake.  Please invite former members, present members and future members to this celebration.  Sunday School is at 9:00 and worship is at 10:30.  Help us shine as a church!

Love,

Jim Meek
