JOYFULLY ANTICIPATE
September 21, 2025
St. Lucia is an island in the Caribbean, surrounded by deep, blue waters and a bright blue sky. Houses painted turquoise, coral and yellow, cling to the hillside. Palm trees and bougainvillea line the beaches, reaching high above the sand. Fallen mangoes are spread throughout the roads, so that when cars drive over them, they emit a delightful perfume. In fact, the whole island smells of sea salt, cinnamon and fruit. The main crop is cacao, thus most of the food is mixed or covered with a delightful chocolate sauce.
When you wake up in the morning you behold the most beautiful sights in the world, including rugged mountains rising above the waters. You can even get a hotel room with a secret path leading down to great snorkeling where the fish look like something out of Dr. Seuss children’s books.
As beautiful as St. Lucia is, it’s nothing compared to the beauty awaiting the Christian in heaven and the new heaven and earth. As the unicorn states in C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” when beholding the New Narnia, “This is everything we loved about the old Narnia only better!”
Sunday I’m preaching on “Joyfully Anticipate” from Jeremiah 29:4-14. We’ll look at “Seek the Welfare of Those around You,” verses 4-7; and “Have Hope,” verses 8-14. In a world where people want to kill others who have different opinions, we should seek the welfare of everyone, loving everyone. And we should help people find hope in Jesus, the hope of an eternal beauty even greater than St. Lucia’s!
By the way, my thanks to everyone who made Anniversary Sunday so awesome! I love you! Let’s not have a drop off in attendance this Sunday, but rather let’s come and continue to grow for the glory of God.
