TURN FROM TRIALS TO THANKSGIVING

Last Sunday Quincy Jones died. He’s been called the High Priest of Pop Music. As a producer, technician, composer and performer he worked with some of the greatest musicians in history. He helped make Michael Jackson the most popular musician in the world. By producing the record, “We Are the World” he helped raise $70 million to help feed the starving people in Ethiopia during famine. He’s won 28 Grammy Awards, and composed music for 30 movies and a number of TV shows. But he had an emotional breakdown. He went by himself to Tahiti, going from island to island in search of peace. It was there that he renewed his commitment to God. In the resulting joy he thanked God and said, “Sometimes you need God to slap you and say, ‘Let’s take a look and see what’s going on.’”
We all go through depression, no matter how successful we are or how much we fail. And we all need to do what Quincy did. We need to turn from tribulation to gratitude. Sunday I’m preaching on “Turn from Trials to Thanksgiving” from Isaiah 38:9-21. We’ll talk about “When Depressed Look to God,” verses 9-14; “Thank God for Life,” verses 15-20; and “Obey God,” verse 21. Please join us and learn to turn sorrows into joy.
