HAVE HOPE IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM

During World War II, in 1944 and 1945, the 3rd Army of the U.S. under General Patton went farther in less time than any army in history. It encountered stiff opposition. Yet it liberated or conquered over 82,000 square miles, 1,500 cities and towns and 12,000 inhabited places, crossing 24 major rivers plus considerable streams during one of the worst storms in history.
Patton ordered his men to pray to God for clear skies in which the allied planes could offer protection for the army, and God provided it in time. After the victory, General Eisenhower offered rare praise to General Patton, but Patton said: “I’m grateful to the Lord for the great blessings he has heaped on me and the 3rd Army, not only in the success he has granted but in the weather which he’s now providing.”
Patton had gone from battle front to battle front to offer his men hope throughout the ordeal of freezing conditions and a resilient enemy.
God wants to offer us hope through the storms of life.
Sunday I’ll be preaching on “Have Hope in the Midst of the Storm” from Acts 27:14-25. We’ll look at “Survive the Storm,” verses 14-20; and “Be Saved to Witness,” verses 21-25. It’s the story of Paul surviving a storm during his journey to Rome to be tried by Caesar. Please join us Sunday!
Saturday, we need you to be present to help us witness to those who come to the Trunk and Treat at 5:30. It’s a great time to reach out to the community to show it that we’re a loving, fun church. I’m doing a wedding right before then in Rocklin, so I might come dressed as a Baptist preacher. I hope I can play the part well!
