RECEIVE YOUR ADOPTION
December 29, 2024
When I was five years old my dad took me to see “Ben Hur.” I was full of questions, and he answered every one. I was fascinated. It’s still my favorite movie. It was taken from the novel by Lew Wallace, a Civil War general. It’s about a Jew, Judah Ben Hur, who was falsely accused of threatening the life of a Roman official. He was condemned to a lifetime of rowing ships for Rome. However, one of his ships was sunk in battle, but Ben Hur saved the Roman commander’s life. The commander then adopted him as his son. In the Roman culture, once you’ve adopted someone, that person cannot be disinherited.
The Bible teaches that when we come to Christ, we’ve been adopted as his heirs, and he will never disinherit us.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Receive Your Adoption” from Galatians 4:1-11. We’ll talk about “Get Adopted,” verses 1-7; and “Stay Free,” verses 8-11. This passage contains that beautiful statement about Jesus coming in the fulness of time.
I pray that you will feel God’s perfect timing for your life. Let’s trust God, our heavenly Father, as we move from the Christmas season to the New Year, and let’s relax in his grace.
Love,
Jim Meek
