BE AMONG THE FAITHFUL
June 7, 2026
Samuel Morse was a brilliant portrait painter, be he belatedly got word that his wife was dying after giving birth. He hurried home but found that she’d already been buried. He determined then that he would develop a means of instant communication so that others would not suffer that way he had by getting news too late.
In time he developed the telegraph, and a code for transmitting messages that would communicate in all languages. The code came to be called the Morse Code. He was poor and slow to get recognition, but finally the Supreme Court declared that he had legal rights to the profits from his discoveries, and he gained $2 million from world-wide contributions, and was honored in America with Samuel Morse Day.
The first message he had sent on his telegraph was from Numbers 23:23, “What hath God wrought.” Decades later, on Samuel Morse Day, he declared, “Glory to God in the Highest, on Earth, Peace, Good Will to Men.”
Through all his years of poverty and grief he stayed among the faithful. In his moments of triumph, he gave glory to God.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Be Among the Faithful” from Numbers 13:17-30. We’ll look at “See the Situation,” verses 17-20; and “Report in Faith,” verses 21-30.
Danny Hur will be leading the music. Pray for him and his family. Also, pray for Jason Kell and his family as they transition into new adventures.
June 14, at 12:30 we’ll have a Called Business Meeting to vote on Danny Hur as our Minister of Music and Single Adults.
Love,
Jim Meek
